Lt. Gen (Retd) Dr B S Malik

Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. B.S. Malik, PVSM, AVSM, is a graduate of the DSSC (India) and RCDS (UK) with an MSc and PhD from Madras University. He joined 5 Gorkhas after passing out from NDA in 1962 and was awarded COAS commendation at Manipur in 1975. He earned PVSM in 2001 as Chief of Staff Western Command after serving as DG NCC, Joint Secretary (Mil) and Secretary Chiefs of Staff Committee. He commanded an Independent Division in the Northern Command, a Brigade at the time of the Sino-Indian confrontation at Sumdo Rong -Wangdung in 1987-89, which earned him an AVSM in 1990. He was Director Military Operations at the Army Headquarters and Directing Staff at the Higher and the Senior Command at the College of Combat. He was selected to attend the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) at London in 1990 and later served as Military Adviser in the UK from 1991 to 1994.His writings have been published in various national newspapers, service journals, magazines, and websites. His essays have also been published as chapters in edited volumes. He is a member of the Governing Council of Netaji Subhash Institute of Management Sciences (NIMS), the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) London and he is also a life member of the IDSA and the United Service Institution (USI). He is President of the Centre for Studies in International Relations and Development (CSIRD) and Control Arms Foundation of India and is working on a project on BIMSTEC and Japan

Prof Amitav Mallik

Amitav Mallik has been a research scientist since 1966 and among the first in India to work on lasers. From 1975 to 1985, he was Professor of Electronics at Defence Institute of Advance Studies (DIAT), Pune where he initiated courses on laser technology. In 1996, he became the Director of DScC, where he created the new laboratory - Laser Science & Technology Centre (LASTEC) in 1998. Under his leadership, LASTEC achieved many important milestones in high power laser (HPL) technology, thus putting India on the world map of HPL. For his outstanding contribution to Laser Technology and Defence R&D in the country, Prof Amitav Mallik was awarded the 'Padmashri' in 2002.Prof Mallik also served as the first ever 'Adviser, Defence Technology' at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC from 1988 to 1994, where he established the initial framework for high-tech cooperation between India and USA. Prof Amitav Mallik was also Member, National Security Advisory Board, Govt of India, during 2003-06. He has authored many technical papers and books on technology and security issues

Prof Varun Sahni

Varun Sahni is Professor in International Politics at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi and currently Chairperson of the Centre for International Politics, Organization and Disarmament (CIPOD). He is also the Editor of South Asian Survey, an academic journal published by SAGE. He lectures regularly to foreign diplomats and officer trainees of the Indian Foreign Service at the Foreign Service Institute in New Delhi.Before joining the JNU faculty in 1995, Professor Sahni was Junior Research Fellow in Politics and Junior Dean at Lincoln College, Oxford; Resident Fellow of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, New Delhi and Reader in Latin American Politics at Goa University.Professor Sahni has held visiting fellowships/professorships at Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico (1997), CIDE, Mexico City (1997-1999) and the National Defense University, Washington, DC (2003), the last of which was under the Fulbright Military Academies Initiative. He has been Personalité d'Avenir at the French Foreign Ministry (1995) and a Member of Mexico's Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (1999-2002)

Shri M V Rappai is a Delhi based security analyst specializing in Asian Strategic issues. worked with the Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India. later on joined the IDSA as a Research Fellow (1996 - 2002). currently associated with the Institute of Chinese Studies, Delhi. Published chapters in books and articles in reputed journals and newspapers. holds a P G Diploma in Chinese language from the School of Foreign Languages, Govt. of India, New Delhi."
